I woke up in tears,
Floods of endless tears,
Like the gates of my emotional reservoir had been opened,
And there was no way I could stop.
I was crying because of a dream,
A beautiful dream,
A simple dream,
My dream.
I was crying because I wanted it to be real,
I wanted everything in it to be true,
I was crying because I could see our forever,
Stretching out in front of us.
I was crying because I want it to be our future,
I was crying because it might not be possible,
I was crying because I needed it to be real,
I cried because it was all a dream.
In the dream we were in our kitchen,
And I was making breakfast,
You were reading the paper,
The kids running around carrying the cat.
You were in your suit,
Smart and mature,
I was in skinny jeans and a baggy jumper,
My hair up in a messy bun.
The radio’s on in the background,
And you stand up,
Walk over to me,
And kiss me.
But then I pull away,
And give you a coy smile,
Because the bacon is about to burn,
And the kids are playing with their food and the cat simultaneously.
I turn around to tell them to leave the cat alone,
And to eat their food,
But just as I am about to call their names,
I wake up.
It wasn’t perfect,
But we were happy,
And that’s all that matters.
