When you feel bad about yourself, one of the ways you can feel better about yourself is to seek and receive validation from others. But the truth is it is never enough.
Because for around a month after you start a friendship or relationship, it is enough. You really start to feel good about yourself. But then the good feeling goes away. But you still need to feel validation, so you find it from someone else. It is a viscous cycle. Validation becomes your drug.
The other day I was hanging out with some friends. And one friend had got herself into a the above situation, which made me realize something. I am on the precipice of falling into this cycle. My whole life I have never felt good enough, and recently I have been feeling a lot of self hatred. So I need a plan. I must not become addicted to validation.
